It is called Verulleni or Verul Caves in Marathi which is only 9 km away from Ajanta Caves.

It is believed that the painting work in these caves was done from 300 AD to 1000 AD.

It is associated with all three ancient religions of India (Hindu, Jain and Buddhist).

In the caves here, pictures of Kailash, Lankeshwar, Indra-Sabha and Ganesha are found on the walls.

The paintings of Ellora are different from the classical standards of Ajanta, that is, signs of decline in art and skill are clearly visible in them.

The most important characteristic features of Ellora paintings are – extraordinary turning of the head, angular bend of the arms, concave bend of private parts, sharp projected nose and large eyes.

The paintings of Ellora also indicate medieval characteristics.
